How To Be Creative When You Aren’t Feeling Creative [Comic]

If there’s one thing creative workers know, it’s the frustration of feeling blocked. There’s an idea lingering somewhere in the back of your mind but nothing you do is able to knock it out.

We feel you, which is why we’ve made this handy infographic on how to be creative when you’re not really feeling it.

If you work in a creative field, you’ve probably experienced a moment of accidental brilliance. Inspiration is thrilling when it strikes. But it’s also fleeting and unreliable.

It feels convenient to use lack of inspiration as a scapegoat for procrastination. As the artist, Chuck Close , “Inspiration is for amateurs. The rest of us just show up and get to work.”

We all get better at our craft through practice. Part of this labor is pushing through blockers, whether they be procrastination or perhaps anxiety that what you make might not meet your high standards. It’s ok to have off days. Not everything you make will be amazing.

It’s the act of working through the off, persisting beyond the blocks, that will strengthen your work. Now, what are you waiting for? Go out and make something.
